[The bedroom in Mom's house begins mostly quiet, as two Pokémon play among themselves while their trainers sleep. However, that peace doesn't last for long, as a moment later the device switches on--a blue tiny elephant taking up the screen. Or rather, Phanpy, Yukiko's new starter has just rolled and crashed into the device and has turned it on.

Moments later, a furry puppy bounds up next to the Phanpy, peering at the device curiously. Chie's Lillipup sniffs at the screen, then barks to his friend, pointing with one paw to another area of the room.

Phanpy agrees with a nod, though looks confused for a moment as she tries to work out the best way to carry the device over there--it seems like something their trainers would like, after all! So, the screen goes completely black for a moment as she tucks it into herself...only to roll towards the bed where both girls are currently sleeping--

CRASH.]

Nnh... Wha...? [Chie is the first to be roused by the Phanpy's enthusiastic roll, lifting one arm (both of which had somehow gotten wrapped around her friend) to rub the sleep out of her eyes. The Lillipup hops up onto the bed and starts licking at her cheek.] Muku, what're you doing? Cut it out...

[While Lillipup licks at Chie, Yukiko is dealing with problems of her own. Phanpy is still laying on the floor at the moment, but since the crash, her device has ended up flying through the air, catching a proper glimpse of their positioning, before it whacks her on the arm, toppling down between them soon after.]

Urgh... it's too early to wake up... [She stirs slowly, but then Phanpy is jumping up anyway, nudging at her with it's trunk. It's at this point she realises she is where she is, however, and her eyes fly open instead of her only being half awake.] C-Chie...? [It hasn't clicked that the device is on yet, though...]

Huh? Yukiko? I don't remember you sleeping over... last... [At this point Chie realizes that this isn't her bed or her bedroom, and the puppy still nudging her cheek is much too small to be the Muku she knows... She grabs the Lillipup and holds him in front of her, staring for a few seconds.] ...Oh my god. You're kidding me! Are we --

[Yukiko rubs at her eye for a moment, and moves to sit up, the device tilts enough so they're both on screen, being pounced on by their respective Pokémon. Phanpy is nudging at the edge of Yukiko's face now, as she looks between them, her best friend, and finally to the device--]

Back here...? [She finally notices that the device is on, and her face flushes up a little soon after--for being caught while asleep more than anything else, how odd this must look doesn't even occur to her.] Ah--!

We must be! There's no way this little guy isn't a -- what's the matter? [Chie looks over to Yukiko, then to the gear. She's a little less oblivious than her friend can sometimes be, but she doesn't think of how odd they look either. She just rolls her eyes and reaches down to turn it off.] Some things never change, huh... [Click.]

[A little while later, the feed starts up again, this time under the trainers' control. Chie and Yukiko stand side by side outside Mom's house, their Pokémon running around in the background. Chie's the first to speak, looking a bit annoyed, but calm overall.]

Hey, guys. Guess it's been a while, huh? But we're back.

I'm sorry for the commotion before, but things seem to have been cleared up now. [She gives the camera a small smile.]

Yep, looks like it. So, uh... Souji-kun, you still here? Or anybody else we met before? Let us know! [With that, the two girls shut the gear off. They've made this journey once before, so they know time's a-wastin'.]

[The camera opens on Chie, standing in Cianwood with a crooked grin on her face -- and a badge in her hand.] So I got some good news, and some stupid news. Let's start with the good: [She holds the badge out proudly.]

Badge number 5 is in the bag! And even better -- [She pockets the badge and swaps it for a little CD-shaped item that everybody surely recognizes by now.] I got the Fly HM! After all this time, I'm finally gonna be able to fly anywhere I want! Buuuut there's a slight problem. See, I came all this way to get Fly -- but I forgot I need a Pokémon who can actually learn it. [She raps her free hand against her noggin in a self-deprecatory fashion.]

The closest thing I have to a flying Pokémon is Agi and Bufu, my Doduo. You can see the problem. [Chie points a thumb behind her to the aforementioned Doduo, who are coming up behind her to nudge her with both heads.] Ow, hey! So since they obviously aren't gonna be flying any time soon, I need -- guys, quit it -- I need a Pokémon who can. I think -- seriously, stop that -- I might head over to the Safari Zone and look there, so if anyone wants to recommend a -- hey, guys! What is your problem?

[The Doduo still haven't stopped nudging her, and when she turns to confront them, Agi points at the Fly HM with his beak.] Do! Do!

Huh? Wait, don't -- don't tell me you two want to learn it?

[They both nod, Bufu more emphatically.] Duo, duo!

You're kidding, right? You don't even have wings! Well, I guess you do underneath all that fuzz, but... Okay, okay, fine, we'll try it. But I'm gonna say I told you so when nothing happens!

[Chie holds the HM up to the Doduo, and they put their heads together under it and close their eyes for a few seconds. That done, they squawk cheerfully.] Do, do! Duo!

I can't believe I'm even trying this. [A little -- okay, very uncertainly, Chie climbs up onto the Doduo's back.] Alright, guys... Fly!

[Nothing happens... at first. Agi and Bufu spread out their legs slightly, claws leaving trails in the sand...]

Uh, are you listening to me? Agi? Bufu? You're at least going to try, right?

[They crouch down low to the ground, body wiggling back and forth as they prepare...]

What are you guys doing? Do you want me to get down, or --

POW

[The Doduo leap straight up, vanishing in an instant, leaving behind a cloud of sand -- and a deafening crack as air rushes in to fill the vacuum. The camera wobbles slightly... and then drops to the beach as Bruce the Hitmonlee rushes forward, staring at the spot where his trainer was moments ago, then up at the sunny sky.]

((OOC: Hey, did you know? The Japanese name for the move Fly, "Sora wo Tobu", can be translated as either "Fly Through the Sky" or "Leap Through the Sky"! Also, badge is mod-approved.))

[Chie's dressed up and geared up on the Pokégear feed, jacket zipped up and bag over her shoulder. She looks like she's ready to hit the road. Oddly enough, she's also wearing a small pair of yellow glasses.]

Okay, I'm done. Officially done. I've been sitting around feeling sorry for myself for way too long. I think what I need is to get out of Goldenrod and do something with myself, before I go crazy.

So. Anyone with me?

[This network post starts off in an ominous way: a primal scream of fury in a feminine voice, immediately followed by wood cracking.

For a second or two, the video shows nothing but a bunch of grass and dirt. But soon a worried-looking Banette picks the gear up, peering into the camera and then spinning the gear around. What she focuses on is a panting Chie, face red and twisted with anger, next to one of those wooden training posts you see in martial arts movies -- now half-splintered and at an angle to the dirt it's planted in.

Chie sees the motion out of the corner of her eye, and she turns to snap at the Banette.] Turn that stupid thing off!! [And Shadow does so right away, but an observant viewer will be able to see a hint of tears in Chie's eyes, if they're quick.

About three minutes later, Chie tacks a simple text post onto the end:]

yukiko went home.

[OOC: I am going to be tackling Chie's 17 backtags... eventually... but in the meantime, here is a drop reaction post. In case it's confusing, Chie searched the breeding center with her team, tried and failed to call Yukiko's gear, then tossed her gear into the grass, where it turned on accidentally. She's holed up in her bedroom now.]

[Please enjoy a Banette face, people of Johto. Shadow has snatched her trainer's Pokégear, and now she's peering at the camera, making sure it's working. Once she's satisfied, she sets it down and backs away, revealing -- whoa, a whole team of nine. From Bruce the Hitmonlee to the still unnamed Pinsir, all of Chie Satonaka's Pokémon are here. But what's the occasion? We're soon to find out.

The team is waiting in front of a nondescript door in Souji's breeding center. It seems to be one of the bathrooms, as after a moment, Chie steps out, toweling off her hair as she sings distractedly to herself. (She's no Risette. She's not bad, it's just clear that she's an amateur.)]

I believe that you and I can do anything
We can change the world...
Cause there's a -- Whoa! [She jumps as she sees her team gathered before her.] Uh, hey, guys. What're you all doing in here?

[Suzuka Gongen nudges Bruce, and he steps forward with hands behind his back, apparently the spokesman. From behind his back, he pulls out... a neatly wrapped present, complete with bow at the top.]

What's that? Where did you... [Chie's eyes go wide.] Oh my god. Is that... It is, isn't it? I can't believe you seriously... I mean, how did you even know it was my birthday? [Bruce just "smiles" mysteriously, keeping the secret.]

Aw, geez, you guys didn't have to do anything... [Chie takes the present with a wobbly little smile. She blinks a few times before standing up straight.] Okay! Okay, I'm, I'm opening it. Here goes!

[She tears the wrapping away easily, revealing... a modest-sized stack of what appear to be DVD cases. New TMs? No, something much better, Chie realizes, gasping happily.] Oh, wow. You guys found me some kung-fu flicks! Haha, you seriously remembered, didn't you, Bruce? Back in December when I was telling you all about Inaba... Oh, look at these! "Ekans in the Staraptor's Shadow"... "Crouching Arcanine, Hidden Salamence"... "House of Flying Razor Fangs"? "Trial of the Dragonite"! Oh, these are gonna be a blast to watch!

[Chie looks up at her team, bringing a hand up to wipe away -- dust, surely that's just dust in her eye. And then she tosses an arm around Bruce's shoulders, yanking him into a hug.] Come here, you! Oh, you guys are the best team ever. [Suzuka Gongen floats over and hugs Chie too, and then Tiger joins in, Yosuke, Sandy and Rinty snuggle up to her legs... Her Pinsir pauses, unsure if she wants him involved, but she laughs and beckons to him (with only a little nervousness).] Yeah, you too. Get over here!

[Of course, then Goldie decides she wants to get in on the action too, the massive Gyarados dashing forward with a happy cry despite Chie's exclamation of:] Whoa, hey, Goldie, wait--!!

[And the whole group goes down in a huge pile of Pokémon and one happy (if flattened) trainer.]

[The video opens in medias res, with a casual conversation going on in the Olivine Pokémon Center. It's not quite loud enough to hear any of the words, though. After a second or two, Chie orients the video on herself.]

Oh, hey, has anybody else noticed how the gym leaders are a little... weird? Me and my friends all challenged Jasmine today, so we could get the Surf TM and cross Route... 42, I think it was? And Jasmine gave us all the same lines from beginning to end. She was all like, "Properly tempered steel won't be made rusty by things like this!" And "You are a better trainer than me, in both skill and kindness." Like she was reading off a script or something!

But anyway, we all made it! I got Ecruteak's badge too, when we stopped there on Friday, so I'm up to four! [Chie shows off two badges to the camera.]

For anybody who's following our quest to rescue Souji-kun, we're leaving first thing tomorrow morning on the way back to Ecruteak. And from there, it's through Mahogany and on to the Ice Path! Just hold on, Souji-kun, we won't make you wait too much longer!

[Chie's face pops up when the video turns on, brow furrowed and lips pursed in a small frown. She doesn't waste time, launching right into what she has to say:]

Hey, everybody. Um, if you haven't seen already, Souji-kun is stuck up in the Ice Path way out by Blackthorn, so a group of us is getting together to go make sure he's okay and bring him back. Yosuke did that text post just a little while ago, but I dunno if anybody could actually read it... [A little snicker.] Anyway, we're all at the Goldenrod store stocking up real quick before we leave.

Now, the reason I actually posted this is... I'm looking at the TMs this place is selling. Y'know, those things that teach Pokémon new moves? I've been meaning to do this for ages, but honestly I kept putting it off. Problem is, we're leaving today, so if I'm gonna do it, it's gotta be now. And... I gotta admit, I'm totally lost. I mean, there's dozens of these things! I'd like to at least get one for Bruce and Suzuka Gongen, and I think Rinty could use a little cheering up... But geez, how do I even decide?

So I guess I'd like some recommendations, if you've got any? Thanks!

On the morning of May 21st, Chie Satonaka decided to challenge the Goldenrod Gym. It was a very spur-of-the-moment thing. She'd just leaned into the breeding center and said, "Hey, guys, I think I'm gonna go hit the gym. Anyone wanna come watch?" So she'd gathered up a few of her friends and made the trip over. She hadn't done any research on Whitney's team and their abilities, or even asked anyone what to expect.

This would come back to bite her.

"Yo! Champ in the making!" a bushy-haired man said as Chie approached, Hitmonlee at her side and the rest of her current line-up following close behind. "This Gym is home to Normal-type Pokémon Trainers. I recommend you use Fighting-type Pokémon."

Chie and Bruce looked at each other, and Chie smirked. She didn't need anyone to tell her that. She was still learning type advantages, but there was one she'd memorized a long time ago: Fighting > Normal. "You wanna handle this, Bruce?" The Hitmonlee just grinned with his eyes and nodded, ready to attack.

... And indeed, once they made their way to the leader of the gym, the first two rounds were embarrassingly one-sided. Bruce had the type advantage and the level advantage, and Whitney's Girafarig and Clefable were knocked out in one shot each. "Oooh, you won't get away with this, you mean old tomboy, you!" Whitney fumed. "Go, Miltank! Use Attract!"

( That was where things started to go haywire... [Wow, this got long, hahaha.] )

"Finally." Chie sighed, Shadow following behind her as she walked across the field to pick up her Pokégear. She managed to smile a little as she flashed the badge at the camera:

...and then shut the feed off.

[The video feed cuts in mid-conversation, evidently activated accidentally. The gear seems to be hanging from someone's belt, swinging to and fro and showing a grassy area. If you look close enough, you might be able to recognize it as the National Park where the Bug-Catching Contest is held.]

...did I let you talk me into this? [Chie's voice is distinctly displeased.]

Because it'll be good for you! [The second (much more chipper) voice belongs to Rise.] I mean, sure, there are a ton of gross bugs, but you could catch a Butterfree or something! They're cute!

Ugh, I never should've told you about the Yanmega. I guess a butterfly would be... okay, but if you're that set on this, can't I just find someone who already has one and trade for it?

Chie-senpai... [There's a definite huff in Rise's voice -- it's not too hard to imagine her sticking her hands on her hips and pouting stubbornly.] That's not facing your fear, and you know it! And besides, you'll actually get something more out of this than another bug.

[A long-suffering sigh. Chie is tempted to say she doesn't want to face her fear, but she knows better than that.] And what would that be?

... When you win, you'll see~! [IT'S INCENTIVE, CHIE.]

[How about some incentive that involves not chasing around giant bugs.] Alright, alright. Well, let's get back to -- hey, did you hear that?

Huh? [After a quick pause, there's an audible rustling, followed by a faint noise of surprise.] Hey, yeah! I guess we were bound to run into a bug eventually...

Right. Well, here goes nothing... [The camera jostles as Chie steps forward -- and then a big brown blur passes through the view briefly. Chie shrieks.] W-What is that?!

[Chie wasn't the only one who shrieked, and Rise isn't exactly the epitome of calm and controlled when she speaks up a split second later.] I-I don't know! But it was huge and I think those were spi-- ohmygod, that is so not a butterfly!

No kidding! Oh geez, get ready, Suzuka -- aaugh!

[The gear blurs around, for just a few seconds getting a good shot of this -- and then the feed cuts out.]

[About half an hour later, Chie appears on video again, sitting indian-style in the short grass on the outskirts of the park. She's holding a Pokéball and a strange glowing stone in her lap, and Suzuka Gongen is staring at the latter.]

Well, that was... interesting. Looks like you guys saw part of it, but Rise-chan talked me into trying out the Bug-Catching Contest up here. I managed to catch that thing that jumped out at us -- it's called a Pinsir, apparently. [She holds up the Pokéball.] So now I've got a giant stag beetle that tears its prey in half with its horns. Seriously, that's what the Pokédex says! How am I supposed to train it if I can't even bring myself to let it out?

Anyway, the Pinsir won the contest! So at least there's that. I got this thing as a prize. Apparently it's called a Dawn Stone? [She holds it up, and Suzuka Gongen's eyes follow it.] This must be what she was talking about. I think I remember hearing about stones that make Pokémon evolve, but how am I supposed to know who can... use...

[By now she's noticed the way her Snorunt's eyes go up and down as she waves the stone around. She turns to her Pokémon and holds it out.] Did you... wanna try it out?

Snorunt! [Suzuka Gongen eagerly snatches up the Dawn Stone. After an instant, she and the stone begin to glow... and when the glow fades, the former Snorunt has evolved. She bows to Chie with a tinkly:] Froslass.

Whoa... You're gorgeous! Froslass, huh... I was wondering if you had any evolutions. I guess now we know! [Chie grins as she reaches for the Pokégear.] Congratulations!

[The video opens on a Ditto, who seems to look a little sheepish. Behind it is everyone's favorite female kick-favoring martial artist, Chie, looking extremely irritated. She grabs the sides of the Ditto's face and stretches it out, then lets go, allowing it to snap back into place.]

Souji-kun. [Yikes, that's a cold tone. Streeeetch... Snap. Chie keeps doing this through the rest of the paragraph.] I left half my team in the room to relax, 'cause I wanted to get some one-on-one time in with a few of them. And when I got back, I found a certain Pokémon had snuck into my room while I was out. [Streeeetch... Snap.] You really need to do something about this thing.

Anyone else who's listening... Well, I guess I've got some eggs to sell! [She sighs and gestures to the side, and whoever's holding the camera turns it to show off a pile of Pokémon eggs. Looks like there's about 8 or 9 of them.] I know most of 'em are Snorunt eggs, and the other ones... I think they're gonna be either Tyrogues or Shuppets. I'd probably rather have cash, but then again, if you've got a cool egg sitting around, we can make a trade too. Let me know!

[The camera turns toward Chie again.] That's about all on my end. I know I've been quiet lately, but after the whole... bug thing... [She suppresses a shudder.] Figure a little peace and quiet is a good thing for once. Later.

[OOC: Egg post! For everybody who responded in my OOC post, your eggs are ready! That is... Rise/Asuka, Fuji, John & Rose, Hinagiku, Rin, and 410, if my list is correct.]

[Chie's gear clicks back on about a half-hour later, focusing on a pleased-looking Hitmonlee in the middle of the Pokécenter.] Alright, Bruce, show it off! [Bruce stretches for a moment, then poses dramatically, holding out:]

[Chie rotates the camera around to her grinning face, Suzuka Gongen nestled in the crook of her other arm.] One badge down, seven to go! I think Shadow got it all recorded. Can you believe Suzuka Gongen beat two of Falkner's birds? [The Snorunt in question smiles, looking tired but content.] And can't forget Bruce finishing things off, of course.

So now that that's done, I think we're all ready to get out of Violet. [Suzuka Gongen chirps an affirmative "Sno".] Souji-kun, how long do you think it'll take you to get here? Oh, and should we go pick Yosuke up? And wasn't Kanji-kun -- Well, you've probably got it all planned out already, so whatever's good with you is good with me!

[Chie turns toward the exit and looks out at the rain.] Man, just look at it pour out there. Maybe we oughtta wait until it... [Blink blink.] Hey, guys, do you see something out there?

[Chie hands the gear to Suzuka Gongen, and all three of them peer out through the glass, looking at what appears to be a small black figure sitting out in the rain...]

Uh... Is anybody in Violet missing a... skull... puppy?

((Still picking up comments from the last post, but here's Chie's first badge win! She's also running across Cybil's Houndour.))

[In her Violet hotel room, Chie appears on the video feed, mouth open as if to speak. However, she notices something on her Pokégear screen, and her eyes go wide. Her expression fades from horror into fury, and then to resignation.]

... Someone please tell me this calendar doesn't say what I think it says.

[She sighs and hangs her head -- honestly, she already knows better. From the side of the screen, Bruce pats her on the shoulder sympathetically.]

Souji-kun, Yukiko, everybody? You mind... filling me in on the time I missed?

((Short and simple, getting her back into the game. She's coming back from a glitch, because if she'd been around during the time I was gone, she would have left Violet behind long ago to meet Yukiko. ANYWAY tl;dr, come pester the kung-fu girl.))

[We open on a truly bizarre sight. Is it a new Pokemon never before seen? Some horrifying Frankensteinian creation?

...No, it's just Chie's Hitmonlee and Snorunt being silly. The Hitmonlee is shaking with silent laughter, while the Snorunt is trying to pretend she's above this foolishness (despite her own faint giggling).

An amused voice comes from behind the camera.] You do realize you guys look ridiculous, right? Here, Bruce, hold this for me for a minute. [The Pokégear trades hands to reveal Chie, pulling on and zipping up her jacket as she speaks.] Hi, everyone! Thought I'd check in, since it's been a while. We're all doing fine! Working hard and getting stronger, you know the drill. Although I guess these two were getting bored waiting for my shift to end. [Her brow furrows.] Hey, I just realized, that's my scarf. [She reaches past the camera to grab said scarf and sling it around her neck.]

Anyway, I wanted to say, we're heading to Goldenrod in a few days! I've got a friend there who's gonna get me past that weird tree thing. So I was just thinking, if anybody here in Violet wants to meet up and hang out, now's our chance! I've kinda been too busy training to meet people here, so I really should change that! Now, we're probably gonna leave...

[Before Chie can finish that thought, the local Nurse Joy approaches.] Excuse me, Miss Satonaka?

What's up? Oh, shoot, did I forget to clock out again?

Oh, no. I'm afraid we found this poor dear when we were doing some computer maintenance. [The nurse hands Chie a Pokéball.] He was sent to you from Goldenrod some time ago, but ended up in the wrong PC box.

Goldenrod? [Chie looks blank for a moment, but then her face lights with comprehension.] Oh! This must be the Pokémon Rise-chan was saving for me! Great, thanks! [Nurse Joy smiles and returns to her work, and Chie turns back to the gear.] I can hardly wait to see what he looks like... Okay, come on out!

[Chie tosses the ball to the ground, and poof! Out comes... an adorable Dunsparce, which immediately leaps into Chie's arms. Oh my gosh my trainer is back!!! She... doesn't take it well.] Aaugh! W-What are you, some kind of weird bug? [The Dunsparce jumps at her exclamation. What, what's going on, what's wrong? Clearly I have to hide in my trainer's jacket now!] Hey, cut it out!

[And then Chie's foot hits a little puddle left by someone coming in out of the cold, and down she goes. The Pokégear goes flying as Bruce rushes forward to try to catch her, and the feed goes black.]

[The video opens to Chie's face, looking pensive for a few seconds... and then that pensive look is replaced with a big grin.] There we go! Hey, everyone! Sorry I've been so quiet, but my Pokégear got kind of, ah, busted after I left Cherrygrove. And then when I got to Violet, the snow trapped me in the Pokémon Center... But I finally got over to the market today to get it fixed up, so here I am!

Me and Bruce are doing alright! [Upon hearing his name, Chie's Tyrogue hops up to get his face briefly in the feed. Chie chuckles.] We've been getting along a lot better since I worked things out with him! As long as he knows he's gonna get his training eventually, he can manage to be patient. He's doing great! Level 17 already! He hasn't learned any new moves yet, though...

Well, anyway, I got done with today's part-time work, so me and him are heading out to do some more training! I may try to catch one of those Snovers people've been talking about.
